Myrtus communis L. is a shrub or small tree with many dense branches and is native to the Mediterranean region. The leaves and flowers contain an essential oil and this is the basis for the use of leaves and flowers in dishes, in the production of wine and especially as perfume ("angel water").
Most parts of the plant have culinary uses. The berries are edible.
Dried fruits, flowers and leaves are used as food flavoring. Some even use wood to flavor meat. When put in a charcoal grill, wood will add a mild flavor to your BBQ.
Oil obtained from tree bark, flowers and leaves is used in the production of skin care products.
Leaves and branches are used to make medicine.
People use rosemary to treat lung infections including bronchitis, whooping cough, and tuberculosis. They also use it for bladder conditions, diarrhea and worms, as an antifungal. Peach flavor contains chemicals that can help fight fungus and bacteria and reduce swelling.
